A wonderfully manageable city
Richmond has a great pace. It's a proper city but never feels overwhelming. We loved just walking through The Fan, looking at the beautiful houses. People were so welcoming, and there are plenty of small parks and coffee shops to relax in.
So much cool art
The art here is fantastic. The VMFA is huge and has so many interesting exhibits, plus the sculpture garden is a nice touch. The street art murals you see all over the city really add to its character. A very creative place.
Full of American History
Richmond is steeped in so much history. Walking the cobblestone streets in Shockoe Slip feels like stepping back in time. It's interesting how the city preserves its past while still feeling modern. You really get a sense of its story.
Great for shopping and strolling
Carytown was my favorite part! The shops are so unique, not your usual chain stores. It's perfect for finding cool gifts. Plenty of nice spots to get a good meal or a drink when you need a break from walking around. A lovely afternoon out.
Amazing city parks
What a treat to have so much nature right in the city. The James River Park System is beautiful for a long walk. It's so accessible and makes you forget you're just minutes from downtown. The views of the river rapids are quite powerful.
Excellent food and beer scene
Came for a weekend getaway and was so impressed by the food and drink options. So many craft breweries to check out, each with its own style. The restaurants we tried all offered really high quality food. A perfect spot for a foodie couple.
